TutorPerini $410 Million Tunneling Contract for Extension of Los Angeles Purple Line

Woo! LA natives can rejoice knowing the metro is slowly but surely coming along, and their days of soul sucking traffic may be numbered.

The LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has awarded the Tutor Perini corporation a whopping $410 million dollar contract to extend the purple line from Century City to the VA Hospital in Westwood, approximately a 2.6 mile extension.

The Tutor Perini corporation is a high-profile specialty construction company who has already had its hands in a number of well-known tunneling and metro projects, including much of the already completed Metro rail in Los Angeles and parts of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system.

The project itself entails the construction of two parallel tunnels running approximately 2.6 miles underground from Century City to the VA hospital in Westwood, not too far from Santa Monica and other densely populated areas.

The extension comes as great news to residents of West Los Angeles who commute to Century City or surrounding areas daily and no longer want to wait 40 minutes, in quite possibly the most frustrating 3-mile drive in history (coming from authors whom are a bit jaded).

The project is set to begin in the next 90 days and should be close to completion by 2022.

Congratulations to the team at Tutor Perini for yet another massive contract, the city of Los Angeles is counting on you!
