Tender Is Now Open For Construction Of Taipa Grande Tunnel Project

Proposals for the Taipa Grande Tunnel project must be submitted by December 11

The Taipa Grande Tunnel project and its southern link design and construction procurement process is now formally open, according to a statement from Macau’s Direcção dos Serviços de Obras Públicas (DSOP). According to the public works department’s tender notification, construction companies interested in the project have until December 11 to submit their bids.

There are two phases of the Taipa Grande Tunnel project’s development. The main tunnel and its southern link, which have passed their preliminary qualification steps and are now accepting proposals, are covered in the first section. The second portion will concentrate on building the northern link, which features a 890-meter viaduct that connects the tunnel to the Macau Bridge.

It is estimated that the project will start construction in the second quarter of 2025. By connecting the Macau Bridge to Cotai, the 600-meter tunnel will offer a detour around Macau International Airport and the Taipa Ferry Terminal. Five pre-qualified businesses have been asked to submit proposals for the project’s initial phase. According to the DSOP, these businesses are required to provide thorough execution plans that include the safety precautions and optimized logistics used to reduce traffic disruptions while construction is underway.

The second part features building a new flyover to link the northern entrance of the tunnel with the Macau Bridge, which crosses the border. This elevated road will have four lanes in each direction and measured around 890 meters long. It will rise up to a maximum of 23 meters above the light rail line and be constructed above parklands.

In order to ensure the correctness and safety of the project, DSOP has asked bidders to provide comprehensive execution plans due to the technical specifications and the possible influence on traffic flow. Officials claim that the raised structure poses a number of engineering difficulties and that any errors could have serious repercussions for safety and traffic control.

The Taipa Grande Tunnel project is making steady progress toward its next stage of development with these two significant tenders now under process.
